Why vehicle tires are black in colour ?

Why vehicle tires are black in colour ?

Ans - Because of a chemical compund called "Carbon Black"

Natural rubber is white in colour and at first tires used to be white in colour which were made by vulcanization process by adding zinc oxide with rubber , but volcunized rubber was soft and heats up easily at moderate temperature and wears out quickly. So, it was necessary to add something with rubber for hardness and temperature stability.

Improves strength and lifespan of tire
Carbon Black is mixed with rubber

In starting of 20th century Zinc oxide was replaced by chemial compound called Carbon Black (it is a bypriduct of coal and oil production) which is original black in colour and when added with rubber increases strength and durability of tire.
Carbon Black has many advantages so it became very popular in very less time.

1. Maintain quality of tire by protection from Ultravoilet rays and ozone which deteriorates tire.
2. Better heat dissipation of tire.
3. Incresed tensile strength of tire.
4. Increases lifespan of tire.
