What is Power Symbol? History behind it's logo design
Power button is a button which activates or deactivates the
particular device, when operated. Originally, Power control switches had a
lever or slides that were toggled between two positions ON and OFF manually. But
due to increasing demand of electrical and electronic appliances later this two
English words were replaced by binary numerical ‘1’ and ‘0’ to bypass
the language barrier. Graphically this
numerical are represented by line (I)
and a circle (O).
With time technology became more advanced in interface
design which resulted in on/off power button.Single button is used to ON &
OFF the particular device and the symbol of power button was created by superimposing
graphical symbols of ON and OFF buttons ( Line (I) and a Circle (O) ).
According to International Electrotechnical Commisiion (IEC)
standards
IEC 60417-5007 – Graphical symbol of Power ON is line
IEC 60417-5008 – Graphical symbol of power OFF is circle
IEC 60417-5009 – Graphical symbol of POWER is line partially
within a circle
